There are thousands of watches produced throughout the centuries. The value of your watch is dependent on many factors and variables.

If you are trying to get an approximate value on your own, here are a few tips and links that will lead to more information.

1- Study the condition of your timepiece. Is is brand new in the box? Has it been worn or only worn on special occasions? Condition is the most important factor for determining value of any antique or collectible.

2- Who is the manufacturer, model of your watch. Record any serial, model numbers, logos and brand of your watch.

3- What other information can you see or provide about the watch. Look everywhere on the object and record any and all markings, logos, dates, metals and so forth. ( Write the above information down to add to your file on this piece)

4- Get a photo or photos of your watch and try and get close up of other interesting details and markings.

Portable time is said to have began in Germany in the early 1500’s as small clocks hanging from the body or clothing.

By the early 1700’s portable time was preferred to wear upon the wrist and is still our favorite way to watch time pass.

Watch making companies began appearing in the early 1800’s in America including the infamous Waltham Company who made and sold hundreds of thousands of models for men and women.

Watches soon were looked upon as a symbol of prosperity. Many were made of gold and gold filled metals and most were ornate in gold, gems and other fine materials.
